Gawd, you people are freaking out over really nothing:

Warnings of a gang-initiation rite popped up yesterday in western New York, North Carolina, and Florida. Some police dismissed it as an urban legend, but Buffalo police issued a public warning.

In Tallahassee, Florida, and Fayetteville, North Carolina, police said text messages and e-mails circulating about the gang activity were an urban legend and there was nothing to substantiate them.

The messages said the MS-13 gang was having an initiation in which likely gang members bump their car into the rear of another vehicle and then attack the driver.

While other police agencies dismissed the car-bump warnings, Buffalo Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson called an emergency news conference last evening. He said there was credible information about a gang initiation ritual.

Gipson warned drivers to call 911 and keep moving if they were rear-ended.

It’s one of New York’s great urban legends:

“There is absolutely no way that someone could fall into cement and not be fished out,” proclaims Christian Meyer, a professor of civil engineering at Columbia University. First off, cement is only poured in shallow layers. Second, it has a specific gravity of 2.4, more than twice that of a human being, which means that it would be literally impossible for a person to sink in it.
